Through a grateful opportunity, I am carrying out a project in the public sector. I am working in a different phase, with a different perspective and heart, from when I worked as a PM at an accounting firm. Many feelings cross at once. I regard keeping this feeling and sense alive as part of the work of someone who does ESG. The field really is where the answer is!
I had been working since 5 a.m., and it is already almost 7. As 2024 comes to an end, I felt as if November and December had disappeared from the calendar. I think the year-end mood, in which companies speak of management difficulties based on the global economic situation, has played a part. Everyone, you have truly worked so hard in 2024. Even so, I do not doubt that we are a resilient and perceptive people who have come through hardships the world itself has acknowledged. Watching the companies around me think hard about the year ahead, I also wonder whether this is a process of moving toward a society where sincere companies and people receive more attention.
“We are in the same boat.” I will remember that this boat holds everyone whose eyes meet ours. Even if only I do so! To be honest, this part feels quite bitter. Let us be together!
I hope that in 2025 you will feel as if two extra months have been given to you, and that today, too, you will smile often and be deeply moved many times.
This is part of Shin Young-bok’s Reflections from Prison, which I enjoy reading. A summer text read in winter feels quite romantic. It is clear that this year-end calls us to make, within ourselves, a bowl of sudden rain that can admonish us.
